这是一个女人在南方反抗传统和种族主义的故事。那时种族之外结婚是违法的，亨丽叶和杰拉德坠入爱河，并面临着当时国家法律的考验。他们计划搬到杰拉德的祖国——法国，在那里他们可以不受任何限制地结婚。直到亨丽叶的妹妹生病，她们被迫留在美国。亨丽叶开始全力争取她作为人民的权利和她在教会中的地位……。Restoration carried out by the National Museum of Singapore and the World Cinema Foundation.
