特技人孟冬在一次表演中令拍挡瘫痪。从此十分自责和自我封锁，亦因此与妻子争执，最後妻子带同女儿离去。後遇到单青鼓励他，使他重建自信。这时孟冬获知拍挡自杀消息而自暴自弃。单青要他勇敢面对新挑战。孟冬终反省过来，将一项高难度特技做到最好，创出高峰……。作品主要围绕犀川研究室成员之一的犀川创平，以及犀川的恩师的女儿西之园萌绘两人展开，虽然萌绘并不是犀川研究室的成员，但参与了该研究室此次的研讨旅行，地点定在了妃真加岛。随后，在萌绘的提议下，犀川和萌绘前去拜访了座落在这座岛上的真贺田研究所，然而他们在那里的密室中发现了一具尸体。以此为契机，之后又连续发生杀人事件，被卷入其中的两人一同解决充满谜团的连环凶杀案……。Harry Moseby (Gene Hackman), a worn-out private detective, is hired to look for a 16-year-old girl who has run away from the luxury home of her mother, formerly a small-time actress in Los Angeles.
